Thenga othukiyathu - Coconut Preparation For Kerala style Throan (stir fries)



Thoran is a famous Kerala style of preparation and an integral part of the everyday Kerala meals. With  all kinds of vegetables, we can make thoran. I have already shared cabbage thoran, have a glance through it.

The basic method of thoran preparation is almost the same, once we are familiar with the coconut preparation, we can quickly make tasty thoran. 

One thing which we should keep in mind is that the coconut should not be over ground, it should be coarsely ground or crushed without adding water.

Within three steps, we can make stir fries, cook veggies with salt, (add water if the recipe demands), mix with spicy coconut mixture, cook till the raw smell leaves.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 to 4 green chilies
  • 4 shallots
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder.


Direction of preparation

  • Let us take green chili, shallots and cumin seeds in a mixer grinder.
  • Crush it by pressing the pulse button for a second.
  • Then add grated coconut and turmeric powder.
  • Spin once again. Your coconut mixture will be crushed and will be yellow in colour.

  • Let us take green chili, shallots and cumin seeds in a mixer grinder.
  • Crush it by pressing the pulse button for a second.
  • Then add grated coconut and turmeric powder.
  • Spin once again. Your coconut mixture will be crushed and will be yellow in colour.



Use it to make thoran or kerala style stir fries
