Dalgona coffee - The two layered coffee 


Dalgona coffee is a coffee fantasy made using coffee powder, sugar and milk. The foam with coffee and sugar is topped over hot or chilled milk. This is a social media boom during this lock down period and everywhere you can see this attractive coffee. So I have also posted its video a few weeks before in my vlog but didn't get time to post in this platform. Online classes started for my Kids and we are experiencing internet speed problems very often. So I decided not to upload any videos or post during this time.

Dalgona coffee can be made in different flavors, but for me it is not a new variety of coffee. This is a very common practice followed by many of my north Indian friends to make thick, creamy coffee, but making this two layers is actually a new experience for me. Even though, this coffee looks attractive, but here is only one draw back, after forming a thick upper foam, it became difficult to drink especially for those who don't prefer strong coffee. For me, I always prefer moderately sweet and strong coffee.

I took coffee on a daily basis and prefer to have light instant coffee powder. But these days lock down made me to adjust with some strong coffee brands which is available in the near by market. For this recipe light coffee varieties like Nescafe is better than the stronger coffee powders like Bru especially if you prefer to a high peak over your glass. Anyways, we can't waste any of our food, place only that much foam which you can consume. .

Double layered coffee

Preparation time: 30 minutes | Cooking time: 5 minutes | Total time 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups of Milk
  • 2 tbsp coffee powder
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoon hot water

How To Make Dalgona Coffee


The first step in the preparation of Dalgona coffee is making the coffee foam. It is the only time consuming step in the whole process.
  1. Take equal portions of coffee powder, sugar and hot water in a bowl. Hot water should not be replaced with cold water, otherwise you may take more time to make the foam. 
  2. Now beat with a hand whisk or electric beater until soft peaks are forms. With hand whisk, you may take up to ten to fifteen minutes to finish this process. It will be better to use an electric blender for this purpose. 
  3. Now gently place the prepared coffee foam above the hot or chilled milk. The dalgona coffee is ready.
  4. To make chocolate dalgona coffee, mix one table spoons of coffee powder with two tablespoon of foam. 
  5. Beat well until well combined. 
  6. Then place this form over hot or chilled milk, the chocolate dalgona coffee is ready to serve.
  7. Enjoy.
