Easy Buttered Corn Recipe | Buttered Sweet Corn Recipe

Buttered corn or butter sweet corn is my daughter's favorite. Whenever, we went outside, she demands this buttery sweet corn. But, we are not so happy with the unhygienic preparation of roadside vendors and not able to fulfill her wish.  Later, we decided to try this dish at home. Today, I will be sharing the easy and tasty version of buttered corn. We can give this our children without any fear. Making with fresh sweet corns and butter at home actually elevates its taste and flavor.


    How do you make buttered corn?


    Buttered corn or butter corn preparation is a quick and easy task, especially when we use frozen sweet corn kennels. But I personally prefer to use fresh corns. I don't like that frozen taste of corn and also in these days, fresh sweet corn is easily available in the markets throughout the year.

    The shredded sweet corn kernels are boiled, seasoned and then buttered. This dish will be ready in hardly seven to ten minutes. Both salted or unsalted butter can be used. But If using salted butter, then skip the salt while boiling the corn kernels. 

    What is sweet corn ?


    Sweet corn is a variety of maize plants. The corn kernels of sweet corn plants are sweet in taste. It is also known as the sugar corn.  The matured fruits are harvested and eaten raw or boiled. You can see grilled sweet corns with Indian street vendors. In addition, there are so many sweet corn recipes we have. In restaurants, it is an important component of soups, pizza, etc. Surprisingly, this fruit is grown and harvested in Kerala now a days.

    Butter corn or spicy butter corn is a very popular street food in India. You will get it from small road side vendors and also in big malls. Very easy recipe, So let us try this beautiful recipe at home, only a few ingredients, easy method and great taste.

    Butter flavored sweet corns

    Preparation time: 5 minutes | Cooking time: 4 minutes | Total time: 9 minutes


    Ingredients

    • 2 big sweet corns
    • 1/2 cup of water
    • 1.5 to 2 tbsp unsalted butter or salted butter (if using salted butter, no need to add extra salt)
    • Salt to taste

    Direction of preparation of Buttered corn


    Preparation of buttered corn is very easy. You can select either fresh corns or frozen corns. Fresh corns give better taste, but if not available, use the frozen one.
    1. Wash and clean the sweet corn thoroughly and remove the kernels using a sharp knife. Set aside. 

    2. Transfer this corn kernels into a saucepan and pour water just enough to cook them. I have used only 1/2 cup of water and that was enough to cook them nicely without losing its crunchiness and sweetness.  Add salt, just a pinch. It should not overpower the sweetness of sweet corns. Otherwise, you can steam them in an idli cooker or in a rice cooker for five minutes. But I prefer the pot method.
    3. Once the corn cooked nicely and the water evaporated completely, you can switch off the flame. Then add butter and mix well. The butter will melt due to the heat entrapped inside the corns. You can also add some pepper, chili powder or chat masala and experience taste difference.
    4. Buttered corn is ready, Enjoy with your kids.
