Honey chili chicken or honey glazed chicken is a popular Asian starter in which the chicken is simmered in sweet and spicy honey based sauce. We use honey and chili to make this juicy chicken starter, but this dish is neither sweet nor spicy. It conveys a very balanced heavenly taste.

Making honey chili chicken is quite easy and we can do this with some commonly available ingredients. 

  1. Chicken - Both boneless or with bone chicken can be used. You might have heard of honey glazed chicken wings, so use wings, legs, curry cuts, boneless pieces any thing of your choice. But I love to use chicken breast today. 
  2. Honey - Regular honey can be used, but you have to adjust its amount to your taste as each brand taste different. 
  3. Salt - When you use salt, remember the Chinese sauces contains a considerable amount of salt. So use only a pinch of salt while marinating the chicken. 
  4. oil - Any odorless oil can be used, but olive oil is recommended.

Ingredients 


To marinate
  • 1/2 kg chicken breast, thinly sliced 
  • 1 tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tsp + 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
For sauce

  • 1.5 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp chili flakes
Other ingredients
  • 5 to 6 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • Spring onion greens as needed

How to Make Honey Glazed Chicken



Direction With Step By Step Pictures
  1. Take thinly sliced chicken pieces in a bowl. Marinate it with  a pinch of salt, pepper and soy sauce.

  2. Set aside for half an hour.

  3. After the resting period, coat each chicken pieces with all purpose flour.

  4. Heat olive oil in a wide pan or Chinese wok. Fry the marinated chicken.

  5. When one side is done, flip and cook the other side also. I fried chicken in two batches and put together after frying the second batch.

  6. Put some garlic cloves and mix well.

  7. Take a small bowl, pour soy sauce, honey and chili flakes to taste. Mix well.

  8. Mix the prepared sauce with the fried chicken.

  9. Then, continue cooking on high flame till the oil separates.

     
  10. Switch off the flame and put some fresh spring onion greens.

  11. Serve hot and enjoy.
