Prawn Hakka Noodle Recipe With Step By Step Photos And Videos

Prawn Hakka noodles are the spicy and juicy Indochinese dish made with prawns, vegetables and noodles. This quick , easy and tasty stir fried noodles is usually doesn't need any accompaniment to eat. This fast food dish needs only less than fifteen minutes to assemble. If all the preparations are done, then will be ready within five to seven minutes.  Really a delectable dish with the aroma and benefits of prawns and vegetables.

    Hakka noodles are readily available in the markets. Both egg and veg noodles are available. For this recipe I used egg Hakka noodles as this gives better taste and aroma than the veg version. But if there is no other option, then try with veg Hakka noodles.

    Before going to the recipe section, I would like to specify a few points.

    Always try to choose small prawns for this recipe so that we get prawn in each bite. I tried with large tiger prawns a few months before. Of course, it was gorgeous. I took a few pictures that time. But when the taste is matter, I love to have the same with smaller prawns. 

    Clean prawns neatly, devein them and cook properly. Add all  other ingredients only after the prawn is cooked well. Otherwise, you may get stomach upset. This is important if you are serving for kids.

    The noodles should not be over cooked. The cooked noodles should be drained completely, washed in fresh water and tossed in oil. You can use olive oil or sunflower oil. Do this step, immediately after the noodles turn al dente.

    So let us go to the recipe. A non-veg lover will definitely love this dish. Try at home and enjoy. Step by step photos and video is also given.     Spicy and Tasty Hakka Noodles With Vegetables And Prawns
    Preparation time: 10 minutes | Cooking time: 5 minutes | Total time: 15 minutes



    • 100 gram prawns
    • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper powder
    • 1 Tsp soy sauce
    To Cook Noodles
    • 200 gm egg hakka noodles
    • Salt to taste (optional)
    • Water as needed
    • 1 tsp olive oil (or sunflower oil )
    Other ingredients
    • 3 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
    • 1.5 tbsp chili flakes
    • 1 tsp vinegar
    • 1/2 cup carrot julienne
    • 1 cup cabbage julienne
    • 2 spring onion bulbs
    • Spring onion greens as needed
    • Olive oil as needed

    Step 1 : Marination of prawns
    1. Take cleaned and deveined prawns in a bowl. I prefer to use smaller prawns for this recipe as I love to get prawns in each bite. 😇

    2. Put pepper powder and one tablespoon soy sauce. I haven't used any more salt for mariantion as soy sauce is salty and that will be enough for this prawns.

    3.  Mix well and keep aside.
    Step 2: Cooking Noodles
    1. Take eight cups of water in a thick bottomed saucepan. Let it boil over high flame.

    2. Once come to rolling boil, decrease the flame to medium. Put some salt. Use of salt while cooking noodles is optional, but definitely this will improve the taste 😋

    3. Once the water comes to a rolling boil, you can add the noodles. Let it boil over medium flame and cook till it turns al dente. (Al dente means cooked but still firm bitten). So bite a piece and check whether it's done or not.

    4. Drain the noodles in a colander and rinse in fresh water in order to stop further cooking of noodles.

    5. Pour one teaspoon of olive oil. You can you sunflower oil also, but do not use coconut oil or sesame oil as it will alter the flavor.

    6.  Toss well so that it do not stick to each other when rest.  Keep aside.

    Step 3: Final preparation of prawn Hakka noodles
    1. Take a wide thick bottomed pan or Chinese wok. Heat it over high heat and pour olive oil.

    2. When the olive oil turns hot, put chopped garlic and sauté till aromatic.

    3. Put the marinated prawns and sauté for a minute. The prawns must be well cleaned and deveined, otherwise may cause stomach upset.

    4. Reduce the flame and cover with a lid. Cook the prawns till soft but not dry.

    5. Open the lid and check whether the stock ooze out from the prawns is dried up or not. If the answer is no, wait till the stock evaporates and oil separate.

    6. Now add the spring onion bulbs and sauté over high heat till turns soft. Further cooking should be done over high heat.

    7. Add carrots and sauté till half cooked. Then add chopped cabbage and sauté till the cabbage turn soft. It will take only a few  seconds.

    8. Immediately pour soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar and chili flakes. Adjust the amount of chili flakes to your taste.

    9. Put cooked noodles and spring onion greens.

    10. Toss well over high heat for next one or two minutes. Make sure the noodle threads are coated well with sauce and veggies.

    11. Sprinkle some spring onion greens and serve hot. I don't think it requires any side dishes. Still, if you like, you can serve with some ketchup or sauces. But remember to serve when hot.😋
