Spicy masala poori or Tikki poori - Crunchy  and tasty Indian fried snack / breakfast with step by step photos and videos. 


Masala poori or tikki poori is a popular Gujarathi teatime snack made with wheat flour, gram flour and spices. It is also known as spicy poori and tikki poori. This quick snack is made mainly during festival seasons like Diwali. Very easy to make and tasty to eat. You can make it as an evening snack for your kids.

    Tikki poori can either serve plain or can topped with some grated vegies and sevai. And you can make this base of chats with the addition of some sauces. Very tasty with salads.

    Tikki poori or Masala poori

    Spicy and crunchy deep fried unleavened flat Indian bread

    Preparation time:  30 minutes | cooking time:  10  minutes | Total time :   40 Minutes



    Ingredients

    For the dough
    • 1/2 cup wheat flour
    • 1/2 cup gram flour / kadala mavu/ besan
    • 1/2 tsp chili powder
    • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
    • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
    • 1/2 tsp chili flakes
    • 1 tsp sesame seeds
    • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    • 1 stalk coriander leaves chopped
    • Salt to taste
    • Water as needed
    Other ingredients
    • Oil for frying

    1. Take wheat flour, gram flour, chili powder, coriander powder, chili flakes, sesame seeds, cumin powder and coriander leaves and salt in a bowl. Pour one or two teaspoons of oil in the dough to make it crisp. Note : Try different spices of your choice.

    2.  Mix well with your hands.

    3. Then pour water little by little and make a soft dough just like we make for usual poories. The batter should be thick but not should not be soft  as chapathi dough. Apply some oil on top and leave it covered for at least one hour.

    4. After one hour, knead again and make small gooseberry sized balls.

    5. Further roll into flat disk and cut into equal sized squares with a cookie cutter. You can knead the dough at once and can cut into desired size and shape.

    6. Prick them with a fork or toothpick so that it turns crisp but not bubble while frying.

    7. Then fry in hot oil over medium flame till both sides turn golden brown and crisp. Flip when one side is cooked and cook the other side also.

    8. Remove from oil when golden brown.
