Sugar cookies with step by step photos and video

Sugar Cookies or Butter Cookies is a basic cookie recipe made with three basic ingredients sugar, butter and flour. It can be served as an evening tea time snack with a cup of hot coffee or tea.

This recipe actually I prepared last December to post on my vlog, but some how I forgot to update here. Today, when I was searching my cakes and bakes section, I noticed that some recipes are missing. So I started writing those basic but tasty recipes from today along with some new unique dishes.

Before going to the recipe section, a small reminder

    1. Sugar cookies are the basic cookie recipe and its main ingredients are butter, sugar and maida. Neither baking powder nor baking soda used in this recipe.
    2. Always use fresh room temperature ingredients. Use superfine or castor sugar for creaming. Larger sugar crystals will take longer period to dissolve.
    3. Baking time entirely depends on the thickness and size of the cookies you made, thin cookies need lesser time and vice versa.
    4. The dough will be sticky and you have to refrigerate the dough before shaping.
    5. Do remember to preheat the oven before shaping the cookies.

This is a very easy and tasty cookies. Try at home and enjoy with your kids.

Step by step Butter Cookies Making With Photos

    • Take room temperature butter in a mixing bowl. I used salted butter for this recipe and I feel, salted butter gives better taste. But if using unsalted butter , then remember to put a generous pinch of salt while creaming butter.

    • With an electric hand mixer, beat and smoothen the butter for a minute.
    • Add sugar in three subsequent batches and beat well at first after each addition. Once you have added all the sugar increase the speed to medium. Do remember to scrap the sides in between so that we get smooth and creamy butter cream with no sugar grains.

    • You have to continue this beating process until the sugar dissolve completely in the butter. It will take almost eight to ten minutes.

      .
    • Further add egg and vanilla and beat again. Before adding eggs make sure there are no undissolved sugar grains left in the mix.
    • Add sifted all purpose flour/maida, give a gentle mix with spatula or a wooden spoon.

    • Then beat at speed one till everything nicely combined. At this stage, the cookie batter will be loose and sticky. This is completely fine, the dough should be loose and sticky.

    • Transfer this sticky and loose dough in a neat and clean plastic sheet.
    • Fold and seal the edges and make a square packet. Gently press and evenly flatten the dough with your hands or using a chapati roller. The dough should not be too thick or too thin. Refrigerate for two hours or till the dough hardens.

    • After two hours, unwrap the plastic sheet and gently roll with a roller. Then cut into desired shape using a cookie cutter.

    • Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
    • Bake at 175 degrees Celsius for fifteen minutes in a preheat oven. Time will vary depending on the thickness of the cookie dough.

    • Take the cookies off the oven when its edges get a nice light golden color. Wait till it comes to room temperature.

    • Then serve with tea or coffee. Enjoy.

    Happy Cooking
