    Fish tikki - About

Fish tikki is a well-known deep fried or shallow fried Indian patty. This deliciously flavorful cutlets are quick and budget friendly.  It has a very balanced flavor and taste that you even not feel fishy smell. Just like any other Indian recipes, the fishy smell will be hidden under the flavors of herbs and spices.

Fish,  herbs, onion, chili and some commonly used spices are its main ingredients. I used mackerel fish for this recipe because this fish is easily available and budget friendly. But you can choose any other soft fleshed fish. One large boiled potato is used for binding. The shaped patties are then battered and fried.

Fish tikki can be served as a starter / appetizer. But you can also serve as an evening snack with or without tomato Ketchup and chili sauce.

    Fish Tikki - Expert's tips

    1. Use any soft variety of fish for this recipe. I used Mackerel fish for this patties because of easiness in shredding the flesh.
    2. I always add some binding agent like potato while making the fish tikki. It helps to keep the patties in shape and they do not break while frying.
    3. Tikkies can be shaped into round, oval or any other shape of your choice. Normally, tikkies are made round.
    4. You can squeeze a few drops of lemon juice in the patty mix in order to introduce a slight sour taste.
    5. These patties can be deep fried or shallow fried.
