    Coconut barfi - About

Coconut barfi or nariyal barfi is a well-known Indian sweet made with coconut. Both fresh and desiccated coconut can be used for making barji. But barji with fresh coconut is more delicious.

Coconut barfi is not that much popular in Kerala. It is only a bakery item for us. Even after using coconut regularly, we were not a great fan of coconut sweets like laddus, barji etc. May be because of that reason, coconut barfi preparation limits in bakery bormas where they use desiccated coconut indeed.

The coconut barfi recipe we are going to discuss today is a quick and easy one. It uses simple and easily accessible ingredients. As I said earlier, the main ingredient of a coconut barfi is fresh or desiccated coconut. Apart from this sugar, milk and milk powder are used. The top layer is made with rose syrup which you can omit. This I used in order to make the barfi attractive and to get a bakery style feeling. In Malayalam, coconut barfi is called thenga barfi, where the word thenga translate to coconut.
