As a quick-serving main meal, egg fried rice is a well-liked Indo-Chinese fast food served in Indian eateries. Both children and adults love this simple and flavorful rice meal. A fried egg is typically served with several side dishes, such as chili chicken, chicken manchurian, etc., or just with tomato ketchup and/or green chili sauce. Today, let's learn how to make egg fried rice.

    Egg Fried Rice - About

An egg fried rice is an Indo Chinese dish made by stir-frying white rice with eggs, veggies, herbs, and spices. It is a quick and simple fast food that is equally important in Indian restaurants as well as from street vendors. In India, there are numerous different ways to prepare egg fried rice, but today we'll talk about the flavorful, ubiquitous egg fried rice that is served in Indian restaurants.

In comparison to chicken fried rice, egg fried rice preparation is more easier and faster. This recipe is for you if you don't eat chicken. For a quick lunch, a child's lunchbox, or even a small get-together, egg fried rice is the perfect meal. A conventional fried rice recipe can be used to prepare egg fried rice. Scrambled eggs, veggies, herbs, spices, and sauces are sautéed with the rice over high heat.

Depending on the sauce you choose and how much sauce is used, the color and flavor of an egg fried rice can range from dark to white. Because I hate fried rice that is dark in color and has strong sauce flavours, I prefer simple fried rice with colorful vegetables. In India, you can buy the dark-colored fried rice from small fast-food outlets and street vendors.

How to cook rice for a perfect fried rice

Rice that is properly divided, non-sticky, and soft is the mark of an excellent fried rice. This perfection requires some experience and understanding of a few methods. On this topic, how to cook rice for fried rice, we have one different post. We will now discuss in brief.

You may have observed that some cooked rice has been laid out equally on tabletops at gatherings and in front of tiny fast food restaurants. This is the initial stage of making fried rice. Rice should be spread out uniformly after being soaked, cooked, drained, and separated.  The fried rice should be prepared using this rice at room temperature.

    Cooking the rice

The first important factor is how the rice is cooked. We will say to use two cups of water for cooking one cup of basmati rice when preparing ghee rice or biriyani. If you cook rice for fried rice using the same technique, the rice will get harder over time. Therefore, preparing fried rice using this approach is not at all recommended.

The second method involves cooking the rice in a lot of water, about four to five cups for every cup of rice. Add the soaked rice when the water is at a rolling boil, cook until the rice is 90% done or there is just a slight bite left, and then drain the excess water. This is the best way to prepare rice to make a perfect fried rice.

    Separating the rice

Use a fork or spoon to separate the rice grains once the water has been drained and the rice has been put in a colander. To prevent the rice grains from breaking, make sure you move your hands with extreme care and softness. If you overlook this step, the rice can stick as it rests. Another suggestion for achieving separated rice grains is to cook the rice with one or two teaspoons of any odorless oil, such as olive oil or sunflower oil.

    Cooling

Prior to sautéing the vegetables with the rice, the rice needs to reach room temperature. The rice will cook again if used immediately, producing a messy fried rice dish with broken grains.  So, after spreading the rice on a plate or clean towel, allow it to cool naturally before using.

Expert's Tips For Making An Egg Fried Rice

    1. The type of rice you use is crucial when preparing fried rice. To make egg-fired rice, you can use any flavorless white rice, such as basmati rice.
    2. Use at least four cups of water to cook the rice for every cup of rice. This will help fried rice preserve its softness for a longer period of time.
    3. Cooked rice should only be used when it is room temperature while creating fried rice. With a quick assembly time of three to four minutes, egg fried rice is a fast meal item. The day before, prepare the rice, store in the refrigerator, prepare the rice in the morning, and quickly pack your child's lunch.
    4. I used olive oil for this recipe. Use sunflower oil if there isn't any in your pantry.
    5. Never leave out scallions and garlic. These two add to the fragrance of fried rice.
    6. Vegetables can be cut into juliennes or brunoise (fine dice). Fine dice are suitable for fried rice, especially if you are cooking it for children.
    7. Light soy sauce is what I used. I am aware that villages do not have as much access to light soy sauce. You can experiment with dark soy as well, but just use half as much because it has a stronger color and flavor than other variants.
    8. Keep the flame on high during the entire cooking period of the fried rice.

Ingredients of an egg fried rice

    • Basmati riceFor preparing fried rice, medium- or short-grain basmati rice is ideal, in my opinion. Short grain rice is the greatest option in my view, and restaurants in Chennai serve it in their fried rice dishes. However, you can also experiment with long-grain basmati rice. Try to stay away from rice kinds with overpowering aromas, such as jeerakasala rice.

    • EggsEgg is a major ingredient since we are preparing egg fried rice. For this recipe, use medium hen eggs.

    • Spring onion or scallions : Any Indo Chinese cuisine must have spring onions or scallions as an essential component since they add flavor and taste.

    • Garlic and ginger: A essential element in egg fried rice. An egg fried rice dish won't taste good if the garlic is reduced.

    • Vegetables : Despite the fact that this fried rice is referred to as egg fried rice, it also contains vegetables such as carrots, beans, cabbages, etc.

    • Soy sauce: For this Indo Chinese-style egg fried rice recipe, only soy sauce is used.

    • Pepper powder: Another flavor enhancer is pepper powder.

    • Salt: For seasoning.
